About the Role
Reporting to the CSO, the Director of Sales & Business Development is a senior leader responsible for leading OE’s Sales and Business Development Team and turning commercial strategy and identified opportunities into executable business.
You will lead OE’s regional, utility, SUE and inside-sales functions, providing the coaching, direction and commercial oversight needed to drive profitable growth and establish a consistent approach to business development, account management, estimating, pipeline management, pricing, negotiations and closing.
As a key link between commercial strategy and execution, you will work closely with the CSO, Operations and Senior Managers to translate customer intelligence and identified opportunities into structured sales and business development activity.

What We’re Looking For
- Experience: Progressive leadership experience in sales, business development, commercial management, or a related field, preferably within hydrovac, utilities, infrastructure, construction, engineering, SUE, environmental services, or another field-service industry. (Senior-level experience leading a sales function or team is strongly preferred.)
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing, Sales, or a related discipline is preferred. (A combination of relevant education and significant industry experience will also be considered.)
- Strategic Sales Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead sales teams, establish revenue targets, strengthen sales execution, and deliver profitable growth.
- Business Development & Key Accounts: Proven experience developing opportunities, managing pipelines, converting strategic opportunities, and building long-term customer relationships.
- Leadership & Coaching: Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, develop, and hold sales professionals accountable while building leadership capability and commercial discipline.
- Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of estimating, pricing, margins, proposals, contracts, negotiations, closing strategies, and customer profitability.
- Financial & Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret sales and financial information, develop forecasts, assess performance against budget, and implement corrective actions where required.
- Communication & Influence: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present, negotiate, and influence at customer, employee, leadership, and executive levels.
- Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to coordinate effectively with Operations and other internal teams so sales priorities and customer commitments align with operational capacity.
- Technology: Strong proficiency with CRM systems, ERP/business systems, Microsoft 365, and sales reporting and analytics tools. Strong ability and applicable function of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential.
work conditions
- Regular travel to customer locations, OE operating locations, industry events, and project sites as required.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout OE's operating regions.
- May be required to visit active construction and utility worksites and wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety footwear, high-visibility apparel, and safety glasses.
- Some meetings, customer events, or business requirements may occur outside standard business hours.
- Manual dexterity is required for regular computer and mobile device use.
- Work environments include indoors, outdoors, construction sites, and public areas with exposure to seasonal weather and dust.
KEY Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
You will help advance growth opportunities, strengthen pipeline and forecasting discipline, support commercial development and account coordination, and ensure sales commitments align with OE’s operational capacity.
Key Accountabilities
- Accountable for sales and business development execution against assigned revenue, margin and growth targets, including development of strategic opportunities.
- Explores, develops and advances opportunities across existing services, new services, new Customers and geographic expansion.
- Owning of non-Enbridge and SUE sales performance, forecasting, pipeline development and margin delivery.
- Providing oversight and support on major proposals, contracts and closing strategies, and leads or supports pricing and negotiations within delegated authority.
- Establishing clear individual, regional and sector revenue targets.
- Coordinating sales priorities and customer commitments with OE’s Operational Centres.
- Reviewing performance against budget and implementing corrective actions where required.
