Our Barrie yard (Holland Landing) location requires a Field Supervisor. Reporting to the Regional Business Unit Manager, this role will ensure the safe, cost-effective, and efficient day-to-day supervision of field crews in their assigned area. The Field Supervisor will collaborate with the respective Sales Leaders to service the needs of our Customers while ensuring effective performance management of the field crews reporting to them.


The Field Supervisor is a key contributor to setting the tone and culture aligned with OE Core Values.

•High School diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary diploma or degree in a technical field preferred.


• Valid driver’s license required to drive the vehicle assigned with, and maintain, a suitable driver abstract for insurance purposes. Valid DZ License is an asset.


•Mechanical aptitude required.


•5 or more years’ previous supervisory experience in a technical environment, preferably in hydro-excavation. Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on operations and business processes.


•Field operating knowledge, related to hydro-excavation, excavation, restoration, or any related support activities.


•Computer skills and strong organizational skills required. (Microsoft suite)


• Solid command of the English language: reading, verbal, and written as will be required to gather and impart information, act as a point of contact to Customers on the job site and may be required to interact with property owners.


•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a positive attitude, and a willingness to take on new challenges.


•A clear and solid understanding of personnel policies, practices, procedures, and other operational issues encountered by the organization.


•Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.


•Self-motivated with the initiative to put hands up when an opportunity/issue comes up

•Manual dexterity is required to use computers and peripherals.


• Work environment: indoors, outdoors, construction sites or similar, public areas, exposure to all seasonal weather, dust, etc.


• Essential physical requirements: sit for long periods; walk for long distances; repetitively: climb, stoop, bend squat, kneel, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.


• Must be able to wear and use all required safety equipment such as, but not limited to: Hi-vis wear, hard hat, safety boots, safety glasses, respiratory protection, and fall protection.


• Must be eligible to work in Canada.

KEY Responsibilities


•Oversee and coordinate daily operations at job sites, ensuring work follows specified plans to timely completion.


•Manage the morale in the department by setting and demonstrating a strong business ethic for dealing with employees, suppliers, and Customers.


•Monitor performance against objectives to ensure that progress is being made, and that corrective action is taken as necessary.


•Execute shop duties including morning and afternoon assistance/presence of Operators pre- and post-scheduled projects.


•Support Dispatch in dispatching units and scheduling projects daily.

•Ensure cab audits are completed, and follow-up is done.


•Follow up on VIRs, JSSAs, VMRs, Crewman’s Checklists, Hours of Service, and VIRs to ensure issues are resolved.


•Communicate with clients with a Customer service focus in the absence of the Sales Manager.


•Coordinate projects on site ensuring effective project execution including communication with field staff, communication with the Customer, and achievement of production goals.


•Conduct pre-site visits to review job scope and site when required.


•Conduct onsite inspections (minimum 6/month), including evaluation of employees, tools, materials, and equipment.


•Responsible for hiring, and performance management up to and including terminations to meet requirements of the business within budget constraints.


•Address issues, resolve conflicts, and maintain productivity and morale.


•Complete and deliver annual performance reviews on time.


•Analyze and report on the weekly, monthly, and annual key performance indicators


•Handle Customer inquiries and complaints regarding field personnel


•Attend daily huddles and report on praise, issues, and concerns.


•Implement Lean Principles to improve the flow of work and drive the elimination of waste.
