Job summary
OE Utility Services is looking for a Supervisor, Operations for our Durham Regional Business Unit (RBU) to join our team. We are looking for someone who aligns to our core values of: be responsive, champion safety, do the right thing, and to respect eachother.
Reporting to the Manager, Durham Regional Business Unit, the Supervisor is responsible for leading the day-to-day field operations within their assigned area. This role turns the daily plan into action by coordinating crews, equipment, and jobsites to ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to specification.
As a hands-on leader, the Supervisor maintains a strong yard and field presence, supports Operators and Helpers through coaching and development, and acts as the face of OE on customer jobsites. This role plays a key part in safety leadership, crew performance, onboarding, and continuous improvement.

Annual Salary Range: $75,000-$90,000, subject to experience

• Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
• Work environments include indoors, outdoors, construction sites, and public areas with exposure to seasonal weather and dust.
• Physical requirements: ability to sit for long periods; walk long distances; repetitively climb, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
• Must wear required PPE: hi-vis wear, hard hat, safety boots, safety glasses, respiratory and fall protection as needed.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada; overtime as required.
KEY Responsibilities
Daily Operations & Field Execution
- Build and adjust daily work plans in collaboration with Dispatch to align crews, trucks, and jobs.
- Ensure crews clearly understand their assignments, locations, and expectations before leaving the yard.
- Maintain an active field presence to resolve day-of issues such as access, conditions, or scope clarifications.
- Be responsive to crew feedback and operational needs throughout the day.
- Maintain yard and shop presence at the start and end of day, including truck checkins, supplies, and coordination of minor maintenance needs.
Safety Leadership
- Lead or support tailgate talks and toolbox meetings as assigned.
- Ensure completion and quality of required safety documentation (JSSAs, VIRs, logs, checklists, hours-of-service).
- Ensure PPE availability and compliance with safety requirements.
- Conduct routine cab audits and site inspections and take immediate action on unsafe conditions.
- Support incident reporting, investigations, and follow-up actions.
Crew Performance & Development
- Provide daily coaching, feedback, and direction to Operators and Helpers.
- Review Lytx footage and follow up as required to reinforce safe and professional behaviours.
- Address minor performance or behaviour concerns early and escalate trends to the Manager.
- Contribute meaningful field-based input to probationary and annual performance reviews.
Hiring, Onboarding & Training
- Participate in interviews and selection of new Operators and Helpers.
- Lead day-to-day onboarding and on-the-job training in the field.
- Ensure Operators are competent and capable of performing work safely and to standard.
- Ensure required onboarding and training documentation is completed and submitted to HR in a timely manner.
Fleet & Equipment Support
- Support Fleet by ensuring trucks and equipment are presented for preventative maintenance, annual inspections, and repairs.
- Coordinate equipment readiness and communicate issues proactively to minimize downtime.
Customer Service & Site Leadership
- Act as the face of OE on jobsites, representing the company professionally at all times.
- Manage day-to-day customer expectations and site coordination.
- Escalate commercial, scope, or customer concerns to the Manager as required.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of timesheets, job reports, and incident details.
- Support compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Implement operational and safety improvements designed by the Manager and provide practical field feedback.
