Sustainability

Protecting our environment, now and in the future.

We believe that doing what’s right for the environment shouldn’t cost you more.

Sustainable Environment

At OE Utility services, the work we do impacts not only our customers but the environment too.

Embedding sustainable environmental business practices and LEAN Thinking into every decision we make is just how we go about our business.

Sustainable environmental practices are built into all aspects of our business model.

All the hydrovac waste generated in our daily work is recycled for reuse into water, silts, clays, and aggregates.

We use high efficiency LED lighting throughout our facility, cutting down on energy consumption.

Our 2.5-hectare hydrovac soil disposal and recycling facility is approved by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservations and Parks.

OE Hydro excavation truck

Hydro excavation

We are proving that what’s good for business can also be good for the environment.

OE is committed to sustainable and cost-effective operations. We are the only hydro excavator in the GTA with our own 94,000 sq. ft. facility housing the OE fleet and our soil processing and recycling facility.

We view hydrovac waste as a valuable resource awaiting its next use.  When hydrovac slurry is processed in our recycling facility, water is extracted and reused throughout the recycling process and to refill hydrovac trucks.

recycling Facility

We are striving to process 100% of all the hydrovac waste we receive and recycle it into materials ready for valued reuse.

Fine aggregates and sand are washed and extracted to meet the Ontario Provincial Standard Specification and are often used to refill excavated holes.  Silts and clays are converted from waste into clean fill. Our facility is ECA approved.  All materials are tested to ensure compliance with new Ontario provincial soil regulations.

Rain water collected on the rooftop is used in the soil recycling process.

Shop exhaust is reused to heat exterior operations in the winter

OE's LEAN Thinking is synergistic with sustainability.

1.

Water Collected at job site is unloaded at our on-premise facility

2.

Waste is seperated and sorted into aggregate, sand, silt and clay

3.

Avoiding duplication of effort or eliminating unnecessary activities

4.

Planning jobs to remove overqualified resources

Recycled Sand Product

OE's premium performance pipe bedding sand product is engineered for high-performance and specially formulated to protect and preserve underground utility piping.  With a slightly higher moisture content, our bedding material packs quickly and densely resulting in less sinkage than traditional sand products.

That’s sustainability at its core. That’s the triple bottom line win – People, Planet and Prosperity.
